Friends,
Recently, I sent the first email in a series bringing you the successes of our State Freedom Caucuses from this year’s legislation sessions, proving to you that the model that we built from the House Freedom Caucus in D.C. is working…and working well.
In that last email, I highlighted our Freedom Caucuses’ success in fighting back against the Radical Left’s attempt to socialize your healthcare.
Now the Radical Left is trying to force a new form of tyrannical control, this time by controlling our money.
We’re talking about a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Imagine being forced to have a bank account directly with the Federal Reserve and not with your local bank. Imagine the government being able to see all of your transactions. And worse, being able to censor your transactions. In short, a CBDC is financial slavery, and countries around the world - especially China and Russia - are rushing to adopt them. They’re even trying to do it here in the United States, but they are doing it much more quietly since it’s such an affront to liberty and our way of life.
The South Dakota Freedom Caucus was the first to recognize the plan developed by the Uniform Law Commission (ULC) to build the framework and infrastructure for a national CDBC. This nefarious plan entailed 50 bills being introduced in all 50 states.
Thankfully, the South Dakota Freedom Caucus was successful in leading an initiative to kill the bill (HB 1193) that would have redefined the definition of money to include CBDCs. Their fight brought national attention after the SD Freedom Caucus went on the Glenn Beck show and received support from multiple national groups like Club for Growth, Gun Owners of America, and WallBuilders. While the bill ultimately passed the legislature, the Caucus successfully pressed Governor Kristi Noem to veto the legislation.
Upon Governor Noem’s veto of the bill, the Caucus released the statement, “We profusely thank Gov. Noem for vetoing HB 1193, a bill that would have created a path towards a China-style Central Bank Digital Currency. At our urging, thousands of South Dakotans have called and written to the governor warning her of the dangers of this legislation and she has truly listened to the voice of the people.”
The fight in South Dakota prompted our other 10 State Freedom Caucuses to begin preemptive strikes against this type of legislation, resulting in several Caucuses successfully defeating CBDC legislation in their states:
The Arizona Freedom Caucus successfully led the efforts to kill HB 2770 which created a framework for a CBDC in their state.
The Montana Freedom Caucus successfully killed SB 370, which would have paved the way for a CBDC in their state.
The Louisiana Freedom Caucus successfully authored and passed HB 415 that would ban CBDCs from qualifying as a valid deposit account in the state. Unfortunately, this bill was ultimately vetoed by the Democrat Governor.
To date, no state with a state freedom caucus has successfully passed a CBDC bill. And our national media attention also prompted other states outside of our Network to join the fight – Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and other states all killed their respective CBDC bill. This includes Governor Ron DeSantis in Florida, who announced his own legislation to protect Floridians from a federally-controlled CBDC and what he correctly called the “Surveillance State.”
This fight isn’t over. The Establishment will continue to push these CBDC bills across the country, but our state freedom caucuses will remain vigilant and fight them every step of the way.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks and months to read more about the successes we’ve had this year. Imagine what we could do if we had a freedom caucus in all 50 states! If you share our vision and want to support our efforts, please donate now.
Keep fighting,
Andy Roth
