Friends,
On Saturday, Louisiana held elections for its legislative branch, as well as their state-wide offices. Unlike most states, there are no partisan primaries in Louisiana. It’s a “jungle” primary with every single candidate on the ballot. If a candidate gets over 50% of the vote, they win. If not, the top two finishers head to a runoff.
The most talked about story of the night was how Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry became the Governor-Elect of the Bayou State on Saturday, flipping the governor’s mansion to Republican after eight years of Democrat John Bel Edwards.
But not only did Republicans take back the executive branch, the Louisiana Freedom Caucus, which we only formed back in March, made massive gains.
For starters, every single one of our incumbents were overwhelmingly re-elected, such as Reps. Beryl Amadée, Danny McCormick, Kathy Edmonston, and Raymond Crews.
In addition, Freedom Caucus members Chairman Rep. Alan Seabaugh and Rep. Blake Miguez were both elected to the Louisiana State Senate, expanding the caucus’ ranks into the upper chamber of the state legislature. Establishment Republicans spent over $700K supporting Rep. Miguez’s opponent and he ended up with over 60% of the vote!
The LAFC PAC also supported several candidates who pledged to join the LA Freedom Caucus that came out victorious as well. In total, they supported 31 candidates with 18 outright wins, 7 heading to runoffs, and just 6 losses.
Senator-Elect Miguez’s ballot measure for a constitutional amendment to ban Zuckerbucks and foreign money in state elections also overwhelmingly passed, making LA the first state to enact such an amendment.
With just one legislative session under its belt, the LA Freedom Caucus has already made a ton of noise in the state. Now that their state has a conservative governor, the caucus has even more power to deliver victories for limited government and freedom.
Saturday’s elections showed the LAFC will be here for a long time to come.
Keep fighting,
