Friends,
The lead paragraph from a local news outlet succinctly explains what happened in last night’s GOP primaries in South Carolina:
"Targeted by a seven-figure smear campaign orchestrated by South Carolina’s uniparty leaders and their special interest allies, the Palmetto State’s nascent Freedom Caucus not only survived the onslaught – it managed to take out several pro-establishment incumbents and add to its ranks.”
That’s right. ALL South Carolina Freedom Caucus members who ran for re-election won their races, despite over $2.3 million getting spent against them. SCFC heroes like April Cromer, RJ May, Josiah Magnuson, and Joe White all defeated their Uniparty opponents.
In addition, several new candidates - most of them recruited by the SC Freedom Caucus - won open seats and defeated liberal RINO incumbents.
Earlier this year, RINO State Rep. Jay West - the Assistant Majority Leader - was caught on tape trying to get special interest groups to help fund their efforts to defeat the SC Freedom Caucus. He said, “Y’all need to help us get rid of them.” Then he added, “We need more normal people to run [for office].”
Well, RINO Jay West got destroyed in his own primary last night. The voters sent him packing, 64% - 36%, in favor of conservative newcomer Lee Gilreath.
RINO State Rep. Bill Sandifer, a powerful committee chairman, lost his re-election to conservative Adam Duncan. The same goes for liberal State Rep. Jerry Carter. Gone.
All in all, the SC Freedom Caucus will be growing their ranks while the Columbia Swamp will be getting smaller!
Sadly, last night wasn’t a complete success. The SC Freedom Caucus’s wonderful chairman, Adam Morgan, lost his bid for Congress in a tight race, 48% to 52%. And his amazing SCFC colleague, Stewart Jones, lost his race for Congress as well. Both men contributed greatly to helping launch the SC Freedom Caucus and making it grow. Morgan, especially, has done a remarkable job leading the SCFC, giving conservatives in South Carolina a loud voice in the Columbia Swamp. When the SC Freedom Caucus eventually succeeds in remaking the Palmetto State into a shining example of freedom and limited government, it will be in no small part because of his remarkable leadership.
Going forward, there are just 3 primaries left for our State Freedom Caucuses - Arizona on July 30, Missouri on August 6, and Wyoming on August 20.
