Friends,
I have written to you several times over the last few months on the successes our State Freedom Caucuses have had in both defending their seats and picking up news ones in this year’s primary elections.
In the last two weeks, Arizona and Missouri held their elections and I am happy to report that streak continued.
In Arizona’s July 30 primaries, AZFC member Rep. Justin Heap won a major victory, unseating RINO incumbent Stephen Richer in the Republican Primary for Maricopa County Recorder. Arizona has been a major battleground in the fight for election integrity and Richer was at the forefront of defending the disastrous way that the state’s largest county conducted their elections over the last few years.
Republicans in AZ can be rest assured that a strong conservative who actually cares about securing elections will be the top elections official in Maricopa County when Rep. Heap wins in November.
The AZ Freedom Caucus successfully defended all but one of their seats, and will also pick up new seats in both the state senate and state house, a reflection of their growing power under the amazing leadership of AZFC Chair Jake Hoffman and Vice-Chair Joseph Chaplik.
Missouri also saw a huge victory as founding MOFC member Sen. Denny Hoskins won the Republican Primary for Secretary of State. With millions of establishment dollars going to his opponents, Sen. Hoskins emerged victorious from a crowded eight-way primary.
He will be one of the first State Freedom Caucus members elected to statewide office when he wins in November.
Also, former state senator and MOFC emeritus member Bob Onder won his primary for Missouri’s 3rd congressional district. Since this is a heavily Republican district, Onder should win in November. Picking up this seat is what we call a “double whammy” - not only will Onder be a House Freedom Caucus member in DC, but he is also replacing a retiring RINO Republican who was hostile to the HFC.
Just two years ago, Missouri had zero members in the House Freedom Caucus in Washington. Now they have two, with Onder joining current first-term Congressman Eric Burlison.
MOFC member Sen. Bill Eigel unfortunately finished second in the Republican primary for Governor, running an extremely competitive race against big time establishment money. We’re sadly going to be without Eigel in the state senate going forward, but he will remain a strong leader in the state’s growing conservative movement thanks to the increasing influence of the Missouri Freedom Caucus.
MOFC Chairman Sen. Rick Brattin also comfortably won his primary against an extremely well-funded challenger, all of our members in the Missouri House won re-election, and candidates endorsed by the MOFC in four out of five Senate races won their primary elections as well.
With a member who will be taking statewide office next year, an insurgent candidate who came within striking distance of becoming the state’s governor, and massive success in legislative races, the Missouri Freedom Caucus is going to be a powerful force for many years to come.
When you actually fight for conservative principles, the grassroots will stand with you come election time. That’s what State Freedom Caucuses are proving time and time again,
August 20 will be our last primary election of the year as Wyoming heads to the polls where we hope to once again replicate our success.
Keep fighting,
Andy Roth
