Friends,
Calvin Coolidge once said, “It is much more important to kill bad bills than to pass good ones.”
That is a very wise adage. Once a government program becomes law of the land, it will expand and metastasize. It becomes impossible to kill, while enabling and emboldening lobbyists to push for similar bills that benefit the interests of their crony clients.
It’s a cycle that all feeds on itself.
So it was refreshing when the Wyoming Freedom Caucus killed 13 big government bills on the first day of session earlier this week. From a local news report:
“The Wyoming Freedom Caucus and our allies in the House of Representatives defeated ⅓ of the policy bills that were presented for introduction [Monday],” Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. John Bear (R-Gillette) wrote to WyoFile in a statement.
While the hard-line Freedom Caucus does not have the majority in the House, it does possess enough members to block bills on introduction during a budget session when two-thirds support is needed.
That power was on full display Monday.
“This action was an illustration of the growing movement to both curb government spending and bring government policy more in line with conservative values,” Bear wrote.
Some of the bad bills included fee increases, Orwellian restrictions on protected speech, and a fake “school choice” bill that would create a whole new government-run Pre-K program.
Despite this fantastic news, there is still a LOT of work to be done to expose the liberal Republicans who control the Wyoming legislature. During this same week, a WYFC-sponsored bill to stop the COVID madness failed to pass the WY House:
If that wasn’t offensive enough, these same liberal Republicans also rejected a “What is a Woman” bill, creating biological definitions for male and female, sponsored by WYFC member Rep. Jeanette Ward.
Wyoming is suppose to be one of the reddest states in the country. Donald Trump won it in 2020 by a greater percentage than any other state. But Democrats and liberal Republicans in Cheyenne are rejecting common sense legislation.
There is so much more work to be done to fix our states. Please help us continue to support and educate state Freedom Caucuses like Wyoming and elsewhere as they take on the Uniparty in the state capitols all across the country.
IDAHO
Last week, the U.S. Senate passed an unfunded $96 billion bill that sends more of our money overseas in the form of “foreign aid” instead of using that money to reduce our national debt or secure our border. Our Idaho Freedom Caucus publicly called out their US Senators who supported the deal:
Also, in Idaho, special interest groups and their water-carriers in the legislature tried to push a bill through the Idaho Senate that would have granted some legal immunity to manufacturers of pesticides like Bayer’s Round-Up.
Democrats - in a brief moment of sanity - opposed the bill along with the Idaho Freedom Caucus and allied conservative lawmakers. In the end, they defeated the bill! Unlike their Big Pharma colleagues who helped shove immunity protection through Congress on the COVID vaccines, Bayer simply couldn’t buy off enough votes to get this passed. Big win against crony capitalism! Here’s a tweet from IDFC member Sen. Scott Herndon, who was heavily lobbied by Big Ag:
Keep fighting,
